My Name
You may ask "Why Little Beauty?" Well, a few reasons;
- With us, individuality is where it's at - so we needed a name to match. This sense of individuality is also reflected in everything we do - in the vineyard and the cellar - making for distinctive wines with heaps of personality.
- In the Antipodes, the term Little Beauty is a phrase often used as a term of endearment, or when one feels excited about something. Positive connotation all the way!
- You've all seen Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings ...and yup...that's exactly what it looks like in New Zealand (only minus the Hobbits and Orks). Incredibly beautiful and dramatic scenery. A bit like our wines - 'dramatically beautiful'. Plus we're a little nation (less than 4 million of us)...and of course, we're only a little company.....
So, it couldn't be anything but ; "I'm proudly Kiwi and I'm a Little Beauty".
And what about the design? Well, our extraordinarily creative Kiwi mates Chris and Clayton did us proud. To further explain;
First, New Zealand is about as far away as you can get, way down in the South Pacific. If you look at a world map, we're tucked away in the bottom right hand corner.
Second, one of the redeeming features as to why New Zealand wines are so unique is the fact we are surrounded by Ocean. This maritime climate creates distinctive weather conditions ideal for vine physiology and berry development.
Further, and importantly, our topography. Spectacular alpine ranges feed and protect our stony river valleys where the vines reside. During the ripening season (summer), the daytime temperatures soar, and at night, the Ocean breeze and the cooling effect of the mountains reduce the temperatures dramatically (known as the diurnal temperature change).....a torture chamber for some species, but for grapes, the exact conditions for which to thrive in. And, then let's not forget the purity of our air and our aquifers....
